Why garden rooms are loved by teenagers

During a recent conversation with a client in St. Alban’s, we discussed the reasons behind why they decided to build a garden room and to my surprise it was all about their children. The clients have three children, two of whom are teenagers and they said that their investment in a garden room was all about creating a space for their children, especially the teenagers, where they could have a safe and enjoyable space to have independence and socialise with their friends in.

This conversation prompted the creation of this blog and in it we will explore some of the ways that the addition of a garden room can benefit a family home, providing many benefits that can improve the quality of life for all members of the household.

Increased Space

One of the main advantages of a garden room is that it provides additional space for a family to enjoy. Whether you need more space to work, study, or relax, a garden room can provide a private and comfortable environment for everyone. This can be especially beneficial for teenagers, who often need a space to call their own, away from the rest of the family. By providing them with their own space, you can help them to feel more independent and in control of their own lives.

Privacy

Another benefit of a garden room is that it provides a degree of privacy that may not be possible within the main house. This can be especially important for teenagers, who may feel uncomfortable or self-conscious when they are constantly under the watchful eye of their parents. By giving them a private space where they can relax, study, or hang out with friends, you can help them to feel more comfortable and confident in themselves.

A Safe and Secure Environment

A garden room can also provide a safe and secure environment for teenagers to spend time in. By setting up the room with appropriate furnishings and equipment, you can create a space that is comfortable, safe, and enjoyable for them to use. You can also install security measures such as locks, alarms, and surveillance cameras, to ensure that the room remains secure at all times.

Improved Mental Health

A garden room can also help to improve the mental health of everyone in the family. By providing a space that is separate from the main house, you can create a peaceful and relaxing environment that promotes calmness and reduces stress. This can be especially important for teenagers, who may be dealing with the pressures of school, social relationships, and other challenges. By giving them a safe and supportive space to retreat to, you can help them to cope with these challenges and maintain their mental health.

Finally, a garden room can also increase the value of your property. By adding an extra room to your home, you can create additional living space that can be used for a variety of purposes. This can make your home more attractive to potential buyers, and can help to increase its value on the open market.

In conclusion, a garden room can provide many benefits for a family, including increased space, privacy, security, improved mental health, and increased property value. For teenagers, a garden room can be especially beneficial, providing them with a sense of independence and freedom that can help them to grow and develop into confident, capable adults. If you are considering adding a garden room to your home, it is definitely worth exploring the many advantages that it can provide.
